Volume 16 Issue 18 – January 17, 2020

On Monday, January 27th, Mrs. MacBean will be putting on the read-a-thon kickoff assembly to get students ready and excited for our annual MS Read-a-thon Fundraiser. By reading books and earning money while doing so, students across Canada have raised millions of dollars for the MS Society to fund multiple sclerosis research and provide programs and services to individuals living with MS.

The read-a-thon starts on the day of the assembly and goes until Friday, February 14th. During this time, students will use the reading log to track their reading—the more they read, the more money they can raise!  We will also be having a crazy hair day on Tuesday, February 11th. If you would like to participate, please bring $2. All the proceeds will go towards the MS fundraiser.

High School Exams

January’s field trips are coming up for KG– Gr.2 and Gr. 3-8. On Wednesday, January 29th, kindergarten to grade 2 will be going to Mississauga Living Arts Centre where they will take part and view the show The Magic School Bus: The Solar System. On January 30th, students from grade 3 to 8 will be going to The Chef Upstairs, where they will be cooking a three course meal!

Have fun!

DECA 41st Annual Ontario Provincial Competition— On Friday, February 7th, DECA students will be taking part in the Ontario Provincials at the Toronto Sheraton Centre from 8:00am—5:00pm.  Students will take part in a remarkable experience of professional learning and networking. Students will be competing in a number of oral events throughout the day in various areas of business. Good luck, students!

Russian Literacy Celebration—  On Friday, February 7th, primary and middle school Russian students will be celebrating and demonstrating their knowledge of Russian literacy by performing for their parents in the gymnasium. Thank you Ms. Olga for organizing this celebration!

100th Day Celebration — On Friday, February 7th, students from kindergarten to grade 2 will be celebrating the 100th day of school in the gymnasium with art activities, singing songs and bringing and sharing their “100 of” items of choice. We hope everyone has a great time!

It is that time of year again! Students in grades 1-8 are busy in their English classes working on speech writing preparation to get ready for their in-class presentations and the Royal Legion Public Speaking Contest.

The top students who excelled in their classroom presentation from each grade will be selected to attend the Royal Legion Public Speaking Contest in North York on Sunday, February 16th. Participating in this contest is optional. Teachers will be choosing which students are invited to attend by Friday, February 7th.

Stay tuned!
