This year, students will be learning the alphabet and their sounds. This will be the foundation of their reading skills. Therefore, homework will be sent home most weekends in order for students to practise recognizing the letters and their corresponding sounds. It is expected that students will complete these exercises with their parents and return them to school on the next school day. The reading of three and four-letter words can also be anticipated. Students are encouraged to borrow books from the class library to promote fluency with both phonetically spelled words and sight words.
