When Is the Right Time to Switch Schools?

By Prestige School

Every family who enrols at Prestige mid-year says some version of the same thing: we should have done this sooner. The hesitation is understandable. Switching schools is disruptive. But staying in the wrong school has its own costs — they are just harder to see.

Sign 1: Your child says school is fine. Children who are genuinely engaged do not describe school as fine. They come home with stories, questions, complaints about hard homework, excitement about a project.

Sign 2: They finish their work too quickly. If your child regularly finishes classwork in a fraction of the allotted time and then waits, they are not being challenged. In a room of 30, teachers teach to the middle. A child who is ahead of the middle has to wait.

Sign 3: Their teacher does not know them. If you leave a parent-teacher conference feeling like the teacher was describing a generic student rather than YOUR child, the class is too big.

Sign 4: You are supplementing at home. If you are hiring tutors, buying workbooks, or teaching concepts yourself because the school is not covering them, the school is not meeting your child's needs.

The myth of waiting for a natural transition. Many parents want to wait for September. But children are resilient, and Prestige accepts students at all grade levels throughout the year. Within a month, most students tell their parents it feels like they have been here for years.

If you are reading this article, you already know. The fact that you are researching school options means something prompted you. Trust that instinct.
