CHARACTER EDUCATION

Wednesday, April 29th, was April’s character education assembly. This month focused on attentiveness. Many of our students have been attentive this month, but some have shown noticeably more. The students who received this month’s certificate are:

May’s character trait is RESILIENCE, which means the ability to bounce back from difficult times in life. Ms. Sabrina and the grade 3s recited a poem to explain the meaning of resilience. Great work!

ACHIEVEMENTS IN MATHEMATICS

On Wednesday, April 29th, students in grades 3 to 5 received certificates for the Math League contests. Grade 3 students took a challenge and wrote the grade 4 contest. Congratulations to these students that excelled!

Students in grade 6 and 7 performed exceptionally well for their Math League contests that they wrote in February. The grade 6s placed 21 out of 118 schools across Canada. The grade 7s placed 22 out of 121 schools across Canada. Amazing work! Prestige School is proud of your all.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL

Ms. Yana presented this year’s high school student council with a certificate. These students have worked together to raise money for the various needs of Prestige School. They have organized fun events for students as well. Amazing work this year!

REPTILIA VISITS

On Wednesday, April 8th, science came to life at Prestige School! Thanks to the team at The World Path, our students had the incredible opportunity to welcome the reptile show from Reptilia and meet some truly amazing creatures, including a Savannah monitor, Burmese python, snapping turtle, and several other reptiles.

Students explored how these cold-blooded animals adapt to their environments, how they survive, and the important role humans play in protecting wildlife and preventing the spread of invasive species. There were so many curious questions and excited smiles throughout the morning.

Experiences like this bring learning to life and help students build a deeper connection to science and environmental stewardship. Lots of fun and lots of learning all in one amazing visit! Thank you to Ms. Vanessa for organizing this event and raising over $1000 for The World Path to continue to provide classroom companions for students across Toronto.

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO

On Tuesday, April 21st, Mrs. Amanda and the grade 4s went to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. They are learning about the Canadian government in social studies and enjoyed a tour of where the provincial government works. The grade 4s were lucky enough to watch the provincial government debate in the chamber from the gallery. They also met the MPP of Willowdale. Thank you Mrs. Amanda for planning a memorable trip!

EARTH DAY CLEAN UP

On Wednesday, April 22nd, Prestige students and teachers spent some of the morning cleaning up our school grounds, surrounding streets, and Burnett Park. Everyone did an amazing job! Thank you to high school student council for organizing the clean up this year. Let’s work together to keep our earth clean every day!

Ms. Michelle and the kinders learned about recycling for Earth Day. They sorted items into three categories: recyclable, compostable, and garbage. Great work everyone!

GOVERNMENT VISITORS

On Friday, April 24th and Tuesday, April 28th, the grade 4s had special visitors, Willowdale’s member of provincial parliament and a Senator. MPP Cho and Senator Anderson took the time to answer questions and to speak about their roles in the government. Senator Anderson also spoke about her life as an Inuit. Students were excited to have met and converse with an MPP and Senator!

Thank you to Mrs. Amanda for organizing these memorable events for the grade 4s.

GRADUATION AND PROM

This year’s graduation ceremony and prom will be on Friday, June 5th at Bomond Restaurant. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. To allow time for photographs, we kindly ask all graduates and their families to arrive by 5:30 p.m. A professional photographer will be available throughout the evening to capture special moments with students, families, and teachers.

We warmly invite parents/guardians and guests to attend this memorable occasion. Each attendee is required to purchase a ticket for the ceremony and reception. Tickets can be purchased by emailing Ms. Yana the number of tickets needed; an invoice will then be issued for the total amount. Please note that the prom party fee is separate from this cost. Due to the venue’s fire code regulations, the number of guests is limited and tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Event Details for Ceremony & Reception with Hors D’oeuvres

Time: 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Cost: $20 per person (all attendees must have a ticket due to venue fire code capacity limits)

Prior to the ceremony, families will have the opportunity to take commemorative photographs with the principal, vice-principal, and teachers. Guests will then be invited to take their seats for the ceremony.

The graduation ceremony for grade 8 and grade 12 students will follow. A commemorative slideshow will commence after students receive their certificates. Following the ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy an hors d’oeuvres social.

Prom Party Celebration (Students Only)

Time: 7:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. (or later)

Cost: $195 per student

Please note that the prom party is a student-only event, supervised by designated teachers and chaperones.

Photos and videos from both the graduation ceremony and prom party will be shared with parents/guardians via Google Classroom.
